For each and every page of this counting and number quiet book I have made the pages interactive as I find my kids love to touch, feel and move things.

Page 5 – Little Ducks

Ok, I thought I was being rather clever with this page 😉 I like to use the nursery rhyme with this page. Except there is no Mother duck character for the page and we pretend we are Mother duck.

All 5 of our little ducks being counted.

These go great with a story line and my daughter loves to act it out.

The Nursery rhyme:

Five little ducks
Went out one day
Over the hill and far away
Mother duck said
“Quack, quack, quack, quack.”
But only four little ducks came back.

Four little ducks
Went out one day
Over the hill and far away
Mother duck said
“Quack, quack, quack, quack.”
But only three little ducks came back.

Three little ducks
Went out one day
Over the hill and far away
Mother duck said
“Quack, quack, quack, quack.”
But only two little ducks came back.

Two little ducks
Went out one day
Over the hill and far away
Mother duck said
“Quack, quack, quack, quack.”
But only one little duck came back.

One little duck
Went out one day
Over the hill and far away
Mother duck said
“Quack, quack, quack, quack.”
But none of the five little ducks came back.

Sad mother duck
Went out one day
Over the hill and far away
The sad mother duck said
“Quack, quack, quack.”
And all of the five little ducks came back.

This page was also rather easy to pull together. I cut out a bit of blue felt for the water and make ripples along the edges. I then put a small green piece for the land where the ducks could exit the pond.

The ducks themselves are freehand cut in sort of a sloppy b shape. Once you have one down you can use it as a template for the others. I didn’t use googly eyes though and went for a small black felt instead with an orange beak and an actual yellow feather. These are all hot glued on. Attach to the page with velcro to make them removable. Please see tips on page 1 about velcro and hot glue use.

TOP TIP: I use a toothpick and tweezers for fine work like this so I don’t get burnt by the hot glue!

Page 6 – Ice Cream

Pom poms are tricky little things to work with to get this page going. I love the overall effect though and my kids like to stack their ice cream “flavors” differently every time! Sometimes it totally made up flavors too.

The pom poms get pulled off and counted on the black dots one by one.

To make this page have a triangle for an ice cream cone and select 6 same size pom poms.

Here is where my tip on page 1 about pressing the velcro together before sticking it down comes into play the most.

Press the velcro dots into each other and cut them in half. A full velcro dot is going to be hard to remove a pom pom from. Place your dots on a surface and add some hot glue then quickly press the pom pom on top. Our first side is now glued to the pom pom. Remember to use the SAME side each time as per tips on page 1.

Next add hot glue to the other side of the velcro and then press to the page in the formation you want your ice cream. Leave these to dry for a bit before you test out their hold.

Always separate the velcroed items to see for hot glue excess before giving the child the quiet book. Use a scissors to trim hot glue if needed.
