I have a confession. Some days I feel myself being overwhelmed by my life.
You see, I have 4 young children and although they are mostly well behaved they can be utterly destructive together and it sometimes feels like they have arranged themselves into a tag team for driving me batty.
My 6 year old talks non stop, my 4 year old is always trying to paint himself in tomato sauce and has a tendency to throw every toy in the house out in the yard, my almost 3 year old is a threenager and has a thing for screaming her frustrations lately and then there is the 6 month old, she’s teething and learning to crawl so doesnt give me much sleep.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my children, very much and can’t imagine my life without them. (insert snuggles, hugs, kisses and tickles)
Today I would like to share a variety of ideas that I use with my own frustrations and feelings of being overwhelmed in the hopes that they too will help you.
Your body is amazing and once you stop poisoning it with chemicals and use nature to nurture it you will see an improvement in your overall everyday life.
Stress
In general you can’t change the stressful situations that come, but you can change your response to those situations.
Various Essential Oils that are known to help:
- Emotional stress – Apply or diffuse Joy, a blend of various uplifting essential oils ( I LOVE Joy!)
- Mental stress – Apply or diffuse Lavender or try the Tranquil roll-on
- Physical stress – Apply or diffuse Peace & Calming or Lavender
For stress that starts with tiredness, irritability or insomnia blend 15 drops clary sage, 10 drops lemon, 5 drops lavender and 1oz carrier oil. Mix and apply in small quantities until you find a dose that works for you.
Personally, I am a stress eater. Chocolate and cake are my friends. Once I have diffused (see what I did there?) the situation and used my various oils to cope (trying to wean off the chocolate here!) I tend to sit with a lot of water weight. This is when I start drinking some grapefruit water as I find it is uplifting, revitalizing and seems to help reduce the water weight.
Headaches
Way too much sugar along with forgetting to drink enough water and high pitched screaming of kids will often result in me having a headache. I will also mention I am currently breastfeeding so we all know where the extra liquids are going. Another one to throw in for the confusion. How can I have water weight when I am not drinking water? (skips lengthy medical explanation)
Firstly address the drinking of water drinking situation. Flavor your water with grapefruit, lemon, orange, tangerine and lavender essential oils. One drop goes a long way!
The next essential oil to try for a headache is peppermint, sniff it straight from the bottle or diffuse / apply topically (dilute with carrier oil).
Feelings of Overwhelm
Sometimes a task can seem just so huge but once we realize that to eat an elephant we would have to do it one bite at a time and that mountain we built from the handful of pebbles is now climbable. (to eat an elephant is a metaphor for size). I find once I have a more detailed PLAN OF ACTION the feelings of being overwhelmed become less.
If you feel overcome and need to release unpleasant, difficult issues in life diffuse or apply these adequately named essential oil blends: Acceptance and Release as well as Roman Chamomile.
Tired / Better sleep
Energy – Increase your energy with a daily dose of NingXia Red / Nitro (superfoods & other awesome stuff!) Diffuse and apply En-R-Gee or peppermint.
Exhaustion – Use Clary Sage, Frankincense and Lavender to calm and relax then get some good rest. If children is what is causing your exhaustion ask for help from your partner, friends and family. You might even consider a once a week day care just so you can recoop.
Fatigue – Once again En-R-Gee is of good use. Also try the blend Awaken.
For getting a good night’s sleep Lavender is the top recommended essential oil. Diffuse it, bathe in it, wash with it or it as a lotion! (There is an entire range of products available)
Also be sure that you are getting enough B12 and VitD – Sunshine! I love these patches for a quick fix.(B12 patch & Vit D patch)
Brain Fog / Concentration
This is often me. Once again with the forgetting to drink water plus the build up of stress eating (aka sugar) and the lack of a good nights sleep. Our diet as well as our environment also play a factor.
I have found using the Purification blend works great for getting rid of unpleasant odors in my home and that diffusing Joy will often lift my mood over the feelings of brain fog.
Other essential oils that are awesome for concentration are lavender, lemon, peppermint and the blend Awaken.
Connecting with your Partner & Children
I feel that connection is an important part to our well being as a woman, mother and wife. Spend time with your partner, have date night and special alone time. When you are together touch each other, a gentle hand on the shoulder, a caress of a cheek. A kiss just because. This increases our feel good hormones which results in a happier us!
Our children also need our just because time. Have tickle time, give them a hug just because you can. It is all about connection.
Reconnect with yourself
Who ARE you? What do you LOVE to do? Make time for yourself and a hobby (if that’s what it is). Learn new things, explore new areas and try new things.
As a wife and mother I feel the need to DO things FOR my family and I often neglect that I too need. Reconnecting with yourself is a deep soul searching topic.
In short be happy with your life. If it doesn’t make you happy CHANGE IT!
One of the things I have changed this year is to use essential oils more. I am finding a ton of uses for them in my home and my life and I like to think that this change is definitely for the better.
