Process Art For Kids With Sponges
- assorted hand sponges
- paint brush
- assorted craft paints
- paper plates
- white craft paper
You can also make your own DIY paint right at home!
Begin by thinking about what shapes you wish to make with your sponges.
You can make squares, circles, triangles, the list goes on!
Use your scissors to start cutting your sponges into various shapes. You might need to dampen the sponge prior to cut it in order to soften it up.
If you wish, you can trace the design on the sponge with a marker first. Or you can just freehand the shape using your scissors.
Once your shapes are cut out, dab some craft paint onto paper plates.
The paper plates are nice because they contain the mess, make the sponges easier to handle, and they help kids access the paint easily.
Lay out some white craft paper. Dip your sponge shapes into the dabs of paint. Wipe off any access paint.
Try a few test stamps on scrap paper prior to beginning to get a feel for the stamps.
If you wish, you can use the paint brushes to brush the paint on the sponges. This is optional.
Press the sponge stamps to the paper. Press firmly and release slowly. You will see the fun shape left behind! Repeat and create the artwork of your choosing with your stamps. You can do patterns, create designs, or just have random fun!
You can rinse the stamps and reuse them with new colors or at another time. Just rinse, ring out, and go for it!
Allow the paint to dry and display.
Just think of all the different types of artwork you could create with these easy sponge stamps! Give them a try and see what you can come up with.
